Austin Shop Directions

Click here for Fort Worth shop directions
Our Austin shop dates back to 1996, so we’ve got lots of practice helping people to find it.  Here are detailed instructions.  Keep our phone number handy in case you get lost and we’ll help you find us.
GPS users:  Putting in our GPS coordinates 30.3236N 97.72555W will get you right to our door.  Just putting 5555 N. Lamar in your GPS will get you to the ATM machine out by the bus stop, leaving you sad and lonely.
Note 1:  We are at 55-55 N. Lamar, not 5-5-5 N. Lamar.  We’re not at the corner of 6th & Lamar, that corner with the hellishly gridlocked traffic.
Note 2:  There is no direct access to our location off of Koenig Lane. You must turn onto either Lamar or Guadalupe to enter to property.

When in doubt, call us at 512-453-0438.
Tell us where you are or what you see around you and we’ll get you to us.

General advice about 5555 N. Lamar...
5555 N. Lamar is a big place, and we chose our location, suite C105, for good test riding, not visibility.  Putting our address into your GPS will get you close to us, but not all the way.  Putting in our GPS coordinates 30.3236N 97.72555W will get you right to our door.

If you come in from the Lamar side, to the west, you will see Half Price Books and Goodwill.  Our shop is in a courtyard directly behind the HPB/GW building.

If you come in from the east side, off of Guadalupe St., there are several entrances off of Guadalupe.  Building E faces Guadalupe and Building D is just behind that.  Building C (where we are) is just past building D, and is closest to Koenig Lane, to the north.

When in doubt, call us at 512-453-0438.  We are used to helping people find the shop.  If you are lost in the business park we’ll ask you what businesses you see.  If our van is parked near the shop you will have an easy time spotting that.

Note also that our neighbor at 5501 is also a business park, just more, well, “funky.”  They also have a C105, but it is full of people lifting weights, without a tricycle in sight.  There is a very good Thai restaurant there, but if you aren’t hungry keep north and aim for the Half Price Books, fronting 5555.

If you are coming in from the east...
You are probably coming in US290, westbound.  290 is tricky, like lots of Austin traffic.  As you get into Austin and near IH-35, keep to the leftmost lanes.  You will see a sign saying that westbound 290 traffic should exit, but don’t do it.  Keep left, as you really want to exit onto RM 2222, which becomes Koenig (KAY-nig) Lane and goes to the shop.  Taking the 290 exit puts you on this terrifying flyover that deposits you a mile to the south on IH-35, probably into a huge traffic jam.  This won’t Make your Cycling Easy.  Keep left and look for signs for RM 2222.

If you are coming from the southeast, you are probably coming in on US 71.  You can use SH 130 (toll) to come up to 290 and bypass a lot of Austin traffic, driving stupid-fast in the process.  Or you can poke up IH-35 with the masses.  In that case, after exit 234, you can, but don’t have to, take the express lanes by keeping right.  Exit at either Airport Blvd, exit 237A, or at Koenig Lane/2222, exit 238.  GPS devices usually route people up Airport, but the Koenig route is simpler…your first light on the feeder is eastbound Koenig, and the second, which you want, is westbound.  Turn there, and go straight at the intersection with Airport (right two lanes).

You will go over the railroad tracks, through the light at Avenue F, and then turn left on Guadalupe.  Make an immediate right into 5555 N. Lamar, or if necessary your second right.  If you make your third right you’ll run into our friends at Monkey Wrench Bikes, who will gladly give you directions.

If you like to get turn-by-turn directions, click on the map at the top of this page to go to Google Maps.  Expand the Side Panel (if necessary) and click “Directions”  Put in your starting location and our location.  Google Maps will recognize our GPS location, 30.3236N 97.72555W, and will route you through the business park to our door.

If you are coming in from the west...
You are probably coming in on US 290 eastbound or from the northwest on US 183.

Coming in on 290, you will take Loop 1 north up to the Allendale Rd. exit.  There are no exit numbers on Loop 1.  Turn right on Allendale and persist at the name changes to Northland and then to Koenig.  Turn right at Lamar, at the top of a long, curvy hill, by the Shell station, and then an immediate left (or as immediate as you can) into the parking lot in front of the Half Price Books.

Coming SE on US 183, exit Lamar.  You must get quickly over to the right side of the feeder road and make a right onto Lamar.  The right two lanes will take you to Koenig.  Pass Koenig, and then take an immediate right where you see Colonel Sanders leering down at you.

If you are coming from the north...
You might be coming down US 183, in which case please see our directions from the west.

Most likely you are on IH-35.  You will take exit 238 for Koenig Lane.  IH-35 has three lanes going into Austin, then picks up a 4th on the right just before US 183, and a 5th lane on the right after 183.  You’ll want to be in that 5th lane over, as it peels off to exit onto US 290/Koenig Lane.  Keep right to take Koenig west.  You will need to get right quickly on the feeder road once you hit the ground.  Once you get right, you can make a right at the intersection, or take a cut through on Brooks Lane, unmarked save for a sign indicating RM 2222.  Turn right since that is all you can do.

You will pass through the light at Airport Blvd (right two lanes).  You will go over the railroad tracks, through the light at Avenue F, and then turn left on Guadalupe.  As soon as you are on Guadalupe, make an immediate right into 5555 N. Lamar, or if necessary your second right.  If you make your third right you’ll run into our friends at Monkey Wrench Bikes, who will gladly give you directions.

If you are coming from the south...
You are probably coming up IH-35, but those coming from the SSW can take US 281 in and hit US 290 out west of Austin.  See our info on coming in from the west if you do that.

Coming up IH-35, the short of it is that you’ll exit at 238 and turn left on Koenig.  On your way, after exit 234, you can, but don’t have to, take the express lanes by keeping right. Either will be fine.  GPS usually routes people to exit at Airport Blvd, 237A, and if so we’ll leave you to it.

Now, dear customer, IH-35 going through Austin is usually Hell.  If it is bad, you’ll see it piling up just before Riverside Dr., just south of the river and downtown.  Here is some sneaky advice if you have a navigator to help you.  Skip this if you have more patience and don’t mind wading through traffic…. Exit at Woodland, exit 232B, and keep to the middle lane (leftmost thru lane) at the light at Woodland.  Keep to that lane.  Stay on the feeder road, which will be slow but less aggravating than a gridlocked expressway.  Immediately after the light at 6th Street, get back on IH-35, but keep to the rightmost lane and exit immediately.  This little trick will get you past the lights at 11th and 12th St., which gridlock in heavy traffic.  As you exit, keep out of the left-turn only lane (it isn’t hard).  You will sit at the light at 15th St., but then merge back left and take the ramp back onto IH-35.  This long entry ramp will put you on the upper “express” level of IH-35, letting exit at Airport or at Koenig.

Exit at either Airport Blvd, exit 237A, or at Koenig Lane/2222, exit 238.  GPS devices usually route people up Airport, but the Koenig route is simpler… keep to the left lane on the feed road after your exit.  Your first light on the feeder is eastbound Koenig, and the second, which you want, is westbound.  Turn left there, and go down to the intersection with Airport (right two lanes).  These two lanes merge into one after Airport (right merges into left).  Pass the light at Avenue F then turn left at Guadalupe. As soon as you are on Guadalupe, make an immediate right into 5555 N.
Lamar, or if necessary your second right.  If you make your third right
you’ll run into our friends at Monkey Wrench Bikes, who will gladly give you directions.

But if you are rich enough to shop here then you might as well pick up SH 130 (toll) south of town at exit 223A and drive stupid-fast all the way to US290, where you’ll follow our directions from the east.  Another bypass is to take US 71 east at exit 231 and then take US 183 north, keeping left on 183 to pick up Airport Blvd. and drive through picturesque slums, across 183 and up to Koenig lane just a mile east of the shop.

If you are coming by bike, foot, or public transportation...
Bless you.  Capital Metro can route you on their bus system.  Here is a copy of the City of Austin’s bike map (big PDF download).  Feel free to call us for route advice, 512-453-0438.  Mike has lived without a car in this part of town for a long time, so talk with him if you can.
Facebook

You can contact us through Facebook, however we’d rather you contacted us by email since we watch that more closely. If you want the fastest assistance the best thing is to call us, but email is best if you need some numbers quoted.

Events and Outreach
512-789-4118 reaches our Minister of Culture and is the best number to call for information about events.  You won’t get much help in how to tune your shifter, but if you are driving around this park in Waco and cannot find the promised ESR Event, that phone is probably there, so call for directions.  This phone number does get text messages.  You can also email the Minister of Culture.

Fax
No dice.  The boss is too cheap to get a fax line. Scan it and email it. Nobody except the Veterans Administration ever wants to send us faxes anyway.

Send us feedback
Email here to bypass operational staff and reach the owner.  If you were pleased with the service you received from us then we’d be thrilled to hear what we did right.  If you have complaints then we need to hear about the problems to fix them.  The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Take a tour of the Austin shop

Here is a bit of fun.  You can tramp around our showroom without even showing up.
