SUMMARY:2020 Heart of Texas Recumbent Rally
DESCRIPTION:It’s back!  It’s new!  It’s old!  It’s the 2020 Heart of Texas Recumbent Rally\, two days of events at Easy Street Recumbents.  Join us\, March 21-22 at Easy Street’s North Texas location up in sunny Keller\, Texas.  Registration is limited to 65 entrants at $25 each.  Registration is simple!  Give us a call at 512-453-0438 (in Austin\, Thursday through Sunday) or at 817-846-8903 (in Keller\, Wednesday through Saturday). \nHere is what I know so far:\n\nFriday evening\, we’ll offer overnight trike storage for out-of-town guests at the shop.  Feel free to drop off your trike\, introduce yourself and visit.\nSaturday March 21st\, 9AM – 5PM\, The ‘Bent Event public demo begins.  We’re inviting everyone to come in to test out the trikes at the Keller shop\, right on the scenic Little Bear Creek trail.  Rally attendees will enjoy our VIP lounge and can play the experienced recumbent rider\, giving the public someone to talk with who isn’t a salesperson.  Join them for rides on the trail or wrangle them around the parking lot\, or kick back and watch someone else do it.  Show up whenever you want.  We’ll be there at 9AM but it doesn’t mean that you have to be.\nSaturday\, 6PM\, after the ‘Bent Event ends\, meet at Spring Creek BBQ in Keller for dinner.  We’ll have a private room reserved.\nSaturday\, 6:45 thereabouts\, ‘Bent University commences\, with informational talks from Mike and any other bigwigs we’ve got in attendance.  Expect something from TerraTrike reps\, and more that I’m working on.\nSunday\, March 22nd\, 9AM\, The Breakfast Rides convene.  Meet at the shop to ride out to breakfast.  I’ve found a location in Grapevine\, about 12 miles down the Cotton Belt Trail\, and I’m working on one in North Richland Hills about 6 miles away.  Ride out\, eat brekky\, and ride back.  We’ll offer overnight trike storage at the shop for attendees\, so you don’t have to tote your trike down for a second day.\nSunday after the rides we won’t clear out right away\, so we’ll be around to see you off and help with anything else you need.\n\nRegistration for the 2020 Heart of Texas Recumbent Rally is easy!  Gimme a call!  512-453-0438\, or call Micah at 817-846-8903.  Follow updates at https://www.facebook.com/pg/HOTRecumbentRally/events/

SUMMARY:GLAMPING at Lake Mineral Wells: CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Come join us! \nGlamor + Camping + Riding = FUN!\n10/19/18:  We have added an itinerary.  Go to the bottom of this page to take a look at what we have got up our sleeves.  Once you have made a reservation\, we will make sure to keep you updated as details are clarified\, but this will give you a pretty complete idea of what to expect. \nElsewhere on this website\, find more pictures of the fun we had on our Kerrville camping trip last fall.  And\, we are going to do it again this year\, but in north Texas in celebration of our new shop location in Keller (Ft. Worth area). \nThis fall’s adventure will take place at Lake Mineral Wells State Park and we would love to have you join us.  This Park has a Rails to Trails bike trail associated with it and will give us plenty of opportunity for riding as much and as long as we want.  There are also both paved and unpaved trails within the Park to ride. \nThe GLAMOR part of this equation refers to the fact that it is possible to reserve a “shelter” which means you don’t have to pitch a tent.  We have 6 shelters reserved which will be assigned on a first-come\, first-serve basis.  They have an outdoor water spigot and electricity\, as well as a picnic table\, a stand-up grill\, and a fire ring.  Each shelter site will accommodate up to 8 people in case you have friends/relatives who you want to camp with\, but who may need to overflow into tents or whatever set up just outside. \nIt also refers to the fact that Easy Street will provide at least one group camping dinner (with your potluck sides as welcome contributions)\,  maybe two\, and two breakfasts with some casual lunch/snack items thrown in for good measure.  We will also plan some fun activities … see below. \n \nCookin’ and Eatin’ \n  \nThe CAMPING part of this equation … well\, I think that’s obvious.  You will bring your own bedding and whatever else you need to enjoy this weekend.  Hopefully\, by that time\, they will allow campfires.  And\, I’m sure we will have our share of mosquitoes\, dirt and all that makes up a truly memorable camping experience!  After all\, we need stories to tell when we get home. \nTalking and Test-riding \nAnd\, the RIDING part of this equation — well\, this is why we came\, right?  We will plan some various opportunities to ride the Trailway as well as some unpaved trails within the Park as we give people a chance to experience off-road cycling.  Of course\, there are paved trails as well and we may divide into groups\, depending on the level of adventure [and the type of bike/trike] people bring to this occasion.  Renting a recumbent is an option.  All bike and trike riders are welcome\, riding a recumbent is not a requirement of participation.  And\, there will be time built into the schedule for visiting\, trying out other people’s rides including a few that Easy Street will bring along\, and generally doing what you want to do. \nLet’s go there! \nThis is what we came for… \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThink about what you might bring to share with others:  stories and games come to mind. \nITINERARY\nFriday\, Nov. 16: \nArrive!  Check-in time for the screened shelters is 2:00 p.m. \nYou can\, of course\, come earlier than that to play around.  Come find Mike and Rebecca in the screened shelter area.  They will be looking forward to seeing you and can offer some information about what to do and what trails they have tried.  We are going to ask you to bring a potluck salad\, other side\, or dessert to share.  We will be firing up the grill when it seems most people have arrived and will provide some choices for a tasty shish kebab of meat and vegies and probably a pot of beans.  Then\, it’s time to gather around the campfire\, relax\, and get to know each other. \nSaturday\, Nov. 17: \nThe Easy Street crew will be up and at ’em\, making coffee and breakfast. \nWe will ride the 9 miles or so into Mineral Wells.  Along the way\, those who are interested can stop to visit the modest but interesting and moving National Vietnam War Museum.  This is also a place where those who might want to avoid the somewhat challenging first section of trail can choose to drive\, park\, and join the rest of us to ride the rest of the way into town. \nBefore leaving camp\, we will decide on a time to meet up for lunch at the Natty Flat Smokehouse; definitely a funky Texan joint.  But\, hey … they have barbecue! \nMineral Wells is a pretty sleepy town.  The streets are easy to ride; picturesque\, not much traffic.  I am sure our ‘bents will get lots of attention.  We will provide you with some colorful local destinations to explore including the Baker Hotel (a complete wreck at this point\, but with an interesting history and a huge vision which are both explained in a short walking tour of educational placards posted along its walls)\, the Crazy Water Bath House which offers\, of course\, “crazy water”  as well as guest rooms where you can stay overnight or schedule a treatment.  (I would definitely call beforehand to schedule.) \nOver lunch\, we will decide what time to head back for those who want to explore a hidden treasure that I am so pleased to introduce you to\, and that is Clark Gardens which is right off the trail.  This is a private garden that has been gradually developed and expanded into a “50-acre oasis” and where the gentleman who is responsible for it all can be seen toiling along with the rest of the staff on a daily basis.  If you have any appreciation for gardens and gardening whatsoever\, you will not want to miss this opportunity.  There is a modest admission fee.  Personally\, I hope to allow about 2 hrs for this stop. \nAt this point\, we are planning to have another Easy Street dinner back at camp followed by sharing our day’s adventures around another campfire.  We are trying to woo an Easy Street customer to be our guest chef\, but that’s a secret. \nSunday\, Nov. 18: \nWhat … the Easy Street crew is going to fix breakfast again?!  Thank goodness we have April Sweden (you know who she is if you attended the Kerrville Glamping Trip) as this trip’s Chief Easy Street Assistant (a MUCH sought-after position) to help get us up and going.  YAY! \nThen\, we can hang out and get ready to go\, but we can also ride into Garner\, the other end of this Rails to Trails stretch before we head home. \nAs you can tell\, all of our plans are flexible and that is a conscious decision.  Yes\, we have our itinerary with our proposed group activities laid out\, but you are also free to go on other adventures and join back up with us as the spirit moves you.  This is an interesting Park and surrounding area with off-road trails as well as the paved Park roads.  And\, we are there to have fun in whatever ways best suit us. \nWe are getting excited and hope you will consider joining us for this Glamping experience. \nAnd\, how much is it for all this fun? $85 per person (paid to Easy Street) for the weekend gets Mike to cook your burgers and be nice to you.  This doesn’t cover your lodging.  There is a $7/day entry fee to the park\, paid at the entrance\, unless you have a State Parks Pass\, which we’d encourage you to get.  If you want one of our reserved shelters (while they last) that is $72 per shelter\, which covers both nights.  RV sites are available.  Call 512-389-8900 to reserve. \nWe will keep you posted as plans develop.  We realize the weather could be a problem.  If we decide to cancel the event (for whatever reason)\, we will refund all your money minus the $10/shelter administration fee the Park charges us for cancelling our shelter reservations.  If you decide to cancel your reservation at least a week out\, we will refund your money\, minus the $10/shelter administration fee.  If you cancel within the week prior to the event\, we can’t refund\, but we’ll still be sad that you can’t make it. \n

SUMMARY:San Antonio for Veterans Day? CANCELLED BY ORGANIZERS DUE TO WEATHER
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nEnthusiastic recumbent rider and supportive Easy Street volunteer\, Garrett Doyle\, has organized an event at her Del Webb community in San Antonio for Sunday\, November 11.  She has got us half a parking lot reserved for test rides and a nearby group room where our very own Big Kahuna\, Mike Librik\, will give short talks on various subjects several times during the day. \nWe would love to have a few of our San Antonio fans show up and share their knowledge\, experience\, and fun times with interested prospective customers.  AND\, if you have friends and family who are interested in learning more about recumbents and would like an opportunity to test ride a few different models\, bring them along. \nALSO\, if you need anything from the shop or need some kind of service that Mike could provide on-site\, give us a heads-up so we can bring the right products and parts with us.  I know the increasing traffic between San Antonio and Austin can be an issue to visiting the shop as frequently as you might like to…and\, we want to make ourselves available as we are able to.  So\, here’s an opportunity! \nContact me if you’d like to join us that day as a volunteer.  We would love to have you come and hang out with us. \n-Rebecca\, 512-789-4118\, culture@wemakecyclingeasy.com

SUMMARY:Austin Area: Community Ride - Sat.\, Sept. 22\, 8:00 a.m.*** CANCELLED***
DESCRIPTION:The Weather Gods have so decreed.  Sigh.  I’d recommend staying in bed\, listening to the rain on your roof\, and staying cozy.  Come join us in October! \n************************************ \nSo\, come ride with us! We are going to ride our favorite South Walnut Creek Trail. It is mostly shady and … it’s an “out and back\,” so if you get tired\, you can just turn around and head back the way we came. Plus\, we leave nobody behind. There will be a sweep who will accompany you back to the starting point if you decide that’s what you want to do. \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nWe will start at the Govalle Park end. The ride is approximately 7.3 miles south to the Austin Tennis Center\, and then we get to use the rest room\, drink water\, rest\, chat\, and turn around and head back. It is mostly shady and is a nice wide paved trail wandering through trees and grassland. This ride is purely a social ride. \nIt will be wheels down at 8:00 a.m.  Bring water\, sunscreen\, snacks\, whatever you need! Wear a helmet! Spread the word … we would love to meet more folks. If you have questions for Mike\, he will be there to answer them. \nIf you have questions about this event\, call Rebecca @ 512-789-4118. If the weather is questionable\, either look on Facebook for an announcement or call that cell phone number just listed. Hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Sun City Autumn Vendor Fair
DESCRIPTION:Looking good … we are ready! \nOnce again\, we plan to be a part of this event put on by the busy Sun City folks in Georgetown.  We love it when members of the Easy Street community show up to help us with this meet\, greet\, and educate event.  Your personal stories and experience mean so much more to people who are looking to buy their first recumbent than anything we\, as staff\, can say.  There is usually lots of interest on the part of the attendees and we encourage them to do some test-riding. \nPreaching the gospel \nShowing them how it’s done — Thanks\, Pris!

SUMMARY:The 2017 Austin RV Super Sale
DESCRIPTION:We have wondered how to get the word out to more RV’ers about how recumbents could add to their lives; providing additional fun\, exercise\, and transportation while they are on the road.  So\, we are going to give this a try.  It will be at the Dell Diamond.  Once again\, we’d love to have you join us (admission is FREE) for some portion of the three days … they are going to be long!  One couple with an RV and ‘bents has volunteered to join us on Saturday — for which we are grateful! \nDo you have an RV?  Could you provide us with any pictures that show you and your ‘bent(s) and your RV?  We would love to have them.  Email them to me:  culture@easystreetrecumbents.com
